About Me
I welcome opportunities to learn, try something new, and challenge myself. I've had a lifelong passion for technology and love bringing that passion to my customers, friends, and family. I often look for ways to help improve the lives of those around me, from improving a team process via scripting, to delivering updated technology to customers, or even lending my experience and ability to various New England car clubs.
Work Experience and Training Overview
Work Experience
Liberty Mutual Insurance, 2013 - Present
I worked for Liberty Mutual since 2013, holding five positions with two different teams. I started on the Personal Insurance IT Security team where my duties included application security reviews, perimeter WAF enhancements, firewall security reviews, and general scripting/automation. After over four years with that team I joined the End User Technology department on the Video Solutions team. On this team I have managed our global digital signage platform, remotely managing a mixture of Windows and Linux servers and endpoints as well as interacting with our customers. I also created scripts and applications around system management and inventorying.
Ford Motor Company, May - August 2012
My last internship before graduation was with Ford Motor Company. I worked as a Security Analyst Intern on the Computer Incidence Response team. I worked on refreshing all documentation and provide training to a global incident response team.
Training and Education
Infrastructure Engineering Acadamy, 2020
The Infrastructure Engineering Acadamy is a four-month internal training program at Liberty Mutual that introduces attendees to a variety of cloud computing concepts and tools. Skills developed include: Python Scripting; Development Pipelining with Bamboo; AWS Basics and Services; Containerization with Docker. I enjoyed the challenge and was driven to complete all projects as well as the extra credit.
Since completing the program I have been able to leverage the skills I learned to develop one new internal tool that saved time on end user training and was able to speed development of an inventory system that my team is developing.
Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI, 2013
I graduated from Michigan Tech's School of Technology with a bachelor's degree in Computer Networking and Systems Administration.
Personal and Hobbies
Sports Car Club of New Hampshire and Racing
During warmer months, you will often find me racing my Miata somewhere in the New England region. I have been honing my skills behind the wheel for several years and really enjoy the people I've come to know through this sport. In addition, I have taken on various responsibilities for running events and organizing the club. This includes the elected position of Executive Secretary as well as Technology Chair, Event Chair, Driving Instructor.
I have also worked as a communications volunteer for New England Forest Rally events and the historic Mount Washington Hillclimb.
Here is a video of one of my runs up Mt Ascutney in Vermont on YouTube.
HomeLab
I enjoy tinkering with electronic, servers, and any technology I can get my hands on. I bundle these hobbies under the title of homelab. It includes things such as my DIY home security center, network monitoring (image on the left), Nextcloud, commute alerting, this resume website and much more. All these services run using a mix of on and off prem hardware as well as technologies such as Docker, Linux, ZFS, and AWS.
